I’ve learned a lot over the years as a family photographer and here are some tips to help guide you in finding the right family photographer!

Shooting types!

My first suggestion is first to find a photographer that loves to shoot the type of images you want. So, if you wish to have a family photography session, look for someone who specializes in good family pics. Ask the photographer to see their gallery or ask how many years they’ve been a family photographer. You can even ask questions about how they work with their families and the experience they provide clients. It’s important you understand what their style will look like, so you’re excited about the final professional photos once delivered.

Check out their website!

Like my first suggestion check out their website and understand their photography packages. What’s included in each family portrait photography session and does your budget align with their photography costs? As well as location, ensuring their local or if they have travel fees, check out what they are. I work as a Toronto family photographer, so I work with local families. If their website has an FAQ section be sure to check this out to understand more about their offer and time of turnaround for the photos.

What’s your budget?

Check the pricing that is outlined by the professional family photographer! Curious about my prices – have a peek here! Make sure that when thinking about how to choose a family photographer you set out a budget that you’d like to stick to. You can set a min and max budget if you’re unsure of your exact amount. For example, you can say min would be 250$ and the max would be $500. Remembers these moments only happen once, so you want to make sure you feel comfortable with your family photographer and that you like their style. You want to choose the best family photographer for YOUR family!

Indoor vs Outdoor?

Would you like an at home photoshoot? Maybe one in your favourite family park? Or at a summer vacation space? Check what options your family photographer has for their locations and do they offer indoor or outdoor – or both! Want to learn more about choosing a family photographer for outdoor photos check out my bog here! Be sure to carefully review the locations of where your photographer shoots.

Choose someone you like!

To get the best family portraits you need to feel comfortable and content with your photographer. Someone who will have fun during your shoot and capture your family as you always dreamed. Most photographers have an “About me” webpage on their site, be sure to read this to learn more about who they are and their style! Your comfort is important and will help with giving your beautiful family portraits.

The process of choosing the right photographer for you may seem like an overwhelming and lengthy process. However, if you do the research and find the "ONE" fit, the "RIGHT" fit, you won't have to go through this process again. Because after choosing the right photographer for your session, you'll start creating a relationship with a photographer who is the perfect fit. And odds are, you will not only book one session with them but many more to capture your beautiful family.
